OUR RESIDENTS
Meet our residents and help us bring more horses into the sanctuary.
Choose and sponsor our next resident horse!
It costs $1,000 to bring in a new resident and $200 a month for ongoing care. Sponsor a specific horse and as soon as we receive enough sponsorship money to cover his or her costs, we bring them to the sanctuary! Sponsors of specific horses will receive special gifts and regular updates and photos of their sponsored horse.
SUGAR PLUM
Current Resident - 15 Year Old Dwarf Mini Mare
Sugar Plum is a dwarf mini horse. She was spotted at an auction in Tennessee with a group of minis. No one wanted her, except the meat truck. This poor little horse was minutes away from being shipped off in a truck full of panicking, large horses, headed to Canada or Mexico. If she wouldn’t have been trampled to death along the way, she would have been slaughtered upon her arrival. Thankfully, Horse Plus, a Tennessee horse rescue organization, was able to outbid the slaughter buyer and saved her, along with her other mini friends!
Sugar Plum is our very first resident of Almost Heaven Horse Sanctuary and an absolute DOLL! She comes running when someone stops over to visit her. She will serve as our “Spokes Pony” to raise awareness towards the plight of senior horses as well as abandoned and abused horses.
ZORRO
Hopeful Resident - 21 Year Old Quarterhorse
This friendly guy has spent years serving our country as a border patrol horse. He’s too old to do his job now and deserves a comfortable place where he can peacefully retire after faithfully serving in his important role for such a long time.

MINNIE
Hopeful Resident - 26 Year Old Grey Percheron Mare
Minnie is a retiring member of the Caisson Platoon. She was one one of a group of horses who performed one of the most solemn activities in the United States - carrying the remains of a US serviceman to his or her final resting place in Arlington Cemetery. In addition to serving in the Caisson Platoon, she also served time in the US Army. She has arthritis now due to her long and most appreciated time in service.
Minnie deserves to live out the rest of her years in green pastures, with other horsemates, in the peaceful mountains of West Virginia.

Please sponsor Minnie today and with your help we can bring her home to the sanctuary!
OTIS
Hopeful Resident - 11 Year Old Hinny Gelding
Otis isn’t old enough to be considered a senior. So we will put him in our “special” category because he’s “specially” adorable! We met Otis when we recently visited Horse Plus and fell in love with this funny character! As Horse Plus is a horse rescue organization, they must find homes for all of the horses that they rescue so that they can continue to rescue more horses. They rescued Otis from the kill buyers at a horse auction. Horse Plus saved this personable boys life. He needs a home and we would love to give him one.

BEE
Hopeful Resident - 23 Year Old Molly Mule
Bee is a well trained mule; she picks up her feet, is respectful on the ground, and knows basic groundwork. While working her, she may walk off when she gets nervous, but this should improve in time. She is buddy sour.

Please sponsor Bee and bring her home to the sanctuary!
